I figured out what the problem was by going back to my console version. You have to mark the prey with an "X" before pulling the trigger as that will end the dead eye session. On the console, you use the R1 button to mark the X on the prey and on PC it is the "Q" button that marks the X. Manually paint your targets.RDR2 doesn't have bullet drop, so aim for head or torso. I did mine at Emerald Ranch from very far away, not too hard of a challenge, generally sharpshooter is easy, good luck to you. I used Hanging Dog Ranch. From way out in the meadow you can creep closer and watch as the O'Driscolls spawn in.
