If you find a damaged ship (and don't have a portal), you DON'T have to fix everything. You just need to fix the things to make it flight worthy. Fix the cockpit, launch thrusters and pulse drive (optional). Everything else can be broken. Fly to station, scrap ship, recall original ship. #6.
